Winter Storm Fern has brought significant ice and snow accumulation to the northern portion of the region, prompting a coordinated response from electric cooperatives across Louisiana.
Beauregard Electric Cooperative, DEMCO, Pointe Coupee Electric, South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association, SLEMCO, Jeff Davis Electric Cooperative, and Washington-St. Tammany Electric Cooperative have mobilized crews to provide mutual aid. These crews are assisting Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative in Winnsboro, Louisiana, as well as Twin County Electric Power Association in Hollandale, Mississippi.
Crews are expected to work through the latter part of the week and will remain on site until power restoration efforts are complete.
“This is one of the cooperative principles we were founded on—cooperation among cooperatives,” said Aarron Graham, Interim CEO of the Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives (ALEC). “Whether we are answering the call for assistance or making the call to request help, we know another cooperative will be there. This is what the cooperative network is all about.”
ALEC continues to monitor conditions and stands ready to coordinate additional resources as needed.
