Hurricane Helene Crew Changes

One week after Hurricane Helene made landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida, some Louisiana crews are headed home. Crews were stationed at Talquin Electric in Quincy, Florida, for three days and then moved to Suwannee Valley Electric, located in Live Oak, FL for the remainder of the week.
Crews from DEMCO and Washington-St. Tammany Electric Cooperative, Inc. are headed to Laurens Electric Cooperative, Inc. located in upstate South Carolina. Other Louisiana crews are traveling home today and are ready to dispatch new crews if needed. Laurens Electric serves over 64,000 members in Laurens, Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Abbeville, Newberry, and Union counties. As of Friday morning, 16,337 members remained without power.
ALEC’s Safety and Training Coordinator, Derek Seal, will oversee the crews while in South Carolina. “Our guys are working hard and are still in good spirits. This area is new to this type of destruction, but we are prepared to take it day by day to help restore power” says Seal.
